|I hate to admit it. 30 days ago, I stood in a sea of complete chaos. Pink, baby doll filled, chaos. Too big of a room, too many toys, not enough storage solutions, and one very active four years old. Which meant at the end of every day, at least 45 minutes of clean up. It was too long. And too painful for both of us, her and I.
It was time to make a change. I had no earthly clue where to begin. Of course, what does any self-respecting millennial mom do when she has a dream. Make a Pinterest board. Since I wasn't sure of my e goal. Other than it is really cute and well, way easier to clean, I needed to a least pick a direction. Through my endless scrolling, my eyes were drawn to a very similar style. It seemed that the items in the room were kid-sized. The bed was lower to the ground, the furniture was smaller. It seemed to embrace a child's Independence through minimal items. Thus beginning Eliora's Minimalist room makeover.
I knew the next step. I dreaded it. But I knew. Before anything cute or small could be added to her room. We would first have to actually MINIMIZE her room. Which meant Marie Kondo style cleaning. We dumped everything and I mean everything out onto the floor. All her clothing. All her toys, books, baby items, and the jammed packed 12 foot closet of junk that had been haunting me. YES. IT. WAS. A. MESS.
We went through every single item in her room. Did it spark Joy? Well to a toddler. Heck YES. EVERYTHING sparks joy. That super expensive Disney dress we bought on our best vacation ever to Walt Disney World. YES! The half ripped paper book with ketchup stains from Chick- Fil- A. OH YEAH so much Joy. So Mama had to have a little intervention with my 3-foot hoarder. I won't lie. There were tears. Possibly Vodka. Jk there was no Vodka. But one week later, thirteen 30 gallon trash bags, and one very tired mama. We did it! The room was down to what we loved, what fit,s and what we wanted to keep.
Next up, it was time to shrink things down to size. I wish I had a shrink ray for this one but at lass, I didn't. I made some tough decisions to get rid of the largest items in her room. Her queen-sized bed, huge wooden dresser, large wooden toy box, and ginormous four story barbie dream house they all had to go. Some were sold, others were shipped off to MiMi's house for later play. Just that step immediately gave her so much more space.
We had the decision to go ahead and switch rooms. We put her in a room that was about 2/3 the size of her current room. and about half of the closet space. The thought was to keep everything small. Including the room. With a smaller space, it would be harder to refill with new items.
Now that we had done the hard work, it was time for the fun part. Turn that Pinterest board into a reality!
We teamed up with 5 Brands to turn our minimalist dreams into our current reality. The best part, they are all super affordable! M Design has the most amazing storage solutions for every room in your home! Including the little ones. I was immediately drawn to their dresser sets. They offered a simple and clean design with lightweight drawers my toddler could manage herself! We went with the 5 drawer dresser in grey for her toys. And the four drawer tower for her clothing. Eliora was even able to help me put them together! And here is the 5 drawer toy dresser in use! It fits in so perfectly!

The next project was turning her brightly colored Disney Princess kitchen into a modern kitchen with muted tones. I loved the quaintness of its size, and the charm of it being a castle. But its bold colors really popped and stood out way too much for me. Now I already know this is not everyone's cup of tea. Some people like the Kid stuff. They like to let their kids be kids, enjoy what the toy industry makes for them as it. Then there's me. The lady who just wants the dang kitchen to match the rest of the room. I had two choices. One, purchase a new kitchen for Eliora that had all the modern features with muted tones. OR DIY this witch. I went with the DIY. And this my friend is how it turned out.
This next product is probably the most genius thing since sliced bread. Creative QT made a bean bag that has a zipper enclosure. So instead of beans in the bag, you fill it with soft stuffed animals. Thus taking care of the mountain of stuffed animal babies we had accumulated throughout the years! Praise the Lord! This product should be in everyone's home. For us, the bean bag doubles as Eliora's reading area! Here is a little example of how many stuffed animals can fit into one standard size bean bag. (HINT: over 50)

The next two brands are more for the sheer adorableness that they both have! Let's start with these wall decals from Pom. A wall sticker company out of France! lucky for us they ship worldwide! Once we got them in, I decided to do a cross pattern as an accent wall.
Right by where Eliora's book area would be. You simply clean off the area that you want to apply them to. So it's completely free of dirt or dust. Allow that area to dry. And stick on. There were a few times where I did have to adjust them to make sure it looked even. They were really easy to remove and replace back on the wall. I picked out the light pink hearts to tie in the bits of pale pink and plush in the room. In the package, there were so many actual hearts. You can definitely do a large surface area with a package.

Lastly, we have this beautiful custom sign from Panhandle Mercantile. These handmade signs are made right here in Florida. And are the perfect addition to any nursery or kids room! A huge focal point of the room was her giant queen bed. And now with that gone. We wanted something much smaller. But yet something she could grow into. We decided a twin would be the right fit! Linen Spa sent us the perfect mattress! The 8-inch memory foam hybrid mattress that has both the support of springs and the softness and conforming of memory foam. It came rolled up tight in a vacuum-packed bag. And it quickly popped open and expanded. It was ready to use immediately! Eliora was so excited she couldn't wait.
We were able to build the house frame of the bed for right around $50. With some simple diy youtube instruction. We were good to go!
